Hunza Valley Travel Guide: Best Time, Costs & 5-Day Itinerary
Hunza is the trip Pakistanis recommend to everyone and foreigners remember for a lifetime: Rakaposhi over the valley, Attabad's blue water, and some of the warmest hospitality anywhere.
Best time
April-May for blossom, September-October for autumn colour and the clearest mountain views. Summer works but Karimabad gets busy; winter is beautiful and very cold.
Getting there
Fly Islamabad-Gilgit if the weather cooperates, then 2-3 hours by road. Or take the Karakoram Highway with an overnight stop — long, but the drive itself is an experience.
5-day outline
Day 1 arrive Karimabad, Baltit Fort at sunset. Day 2 Altit Fort and Eagles Nest viewpoint. Day 3 Attabad Lake and the Hussaini suspension bridge. Day 4 Passu Cones and Khunjerab Pass (China border). Day 5 slow morning, drive back to Gilgit.
Costs
Guesthouses run roughly $25-$60 a night, food $12-$25 a day, and a private car with driver $45-$80 a day split across your group. Full cost tables are in our Hunza destination guide, and you can model your group size in the Trip Budget Calculator.
